How intercity moves differ from local moves

Long-distance moves need stronger packing, careful loading so goods don’t shift in transit and clear documentation.

• Dedicated vs. shared vehicle – a dedicated truck carries only your goods and is usually faster; a shared (part-load) move can cost less but may take longer.
• Packing – multi-layer packing for furniture, appliances and fragile items is strongly recommended.
• Transit time – depends on the distance, route, vehicle type and loading/unloading schedules. Ask the mover for an expected window in writing.
• Documentation – keep an inventory list and the mover’s receipt (often called a lorry receipt or consignment note).
• Insurance – ask whether transit insurance is available and what it covers.
